Matthews and Like are the most similar of all of the canonical gospels, they offer different messages and send differing accounts of the figure of Jesus. It is almost easy to guess who will win the match. D gives consecutive good hits, sending the crowd to a sudden uproar! Several people are not sitting on the bleachers anymore. They keep jumping and waving and clapping in the air. A Sudden Shift I arrived shortly before noon, approximately 11:00 am at Durham, N.C. I was wearing blue to match the university color, and as I walked inside the open court, I saw several blue-dressed students too. Some faces looked familiar, but several shot a couple of glances with smiles. Surely, they knew why I was wearing blue. I positioned myself at the mid-part of the bleachers..not wanting to be too near nor too far from the event. I felt at home with the several familiar faces I saw in the arena. I seated comfortably as I waited for the match to begin. The announcement of the beginning of the match sent the crowd to happy applauses and excited shouts, and when the game officially began, the air seemed to suddenly stand still. Everyone fell quiet, turning their head from side to side, following the tennis ball from one court to the other court. It had been a relaxed first half of the game, and I did not expect the crowd to be rowdy towards the latter part of the match. I then felt myself getting excited with the crown..my heartbeat drumming in the ears till I can imagine my chest thumping from the intensity of my pulses. I never thought that I could feel so excited for a tennis game. I have watched a couple of athletics games be fore, and never had I imagined that tennis games could send the crowd to a frenzied state. It was indeed a close game! There was that part in the game when I almost could not seem to understand what happened. All it took was an extraordinary nice smash by D, and it seemed like it defined that game. Right after that second, the relaxed excitement was replaced by loud cheers and applause. Even the jeers and boos went relatively louder. It was as if the movements of everyone were suddenly orchestrated. D’s hits became more and more incredible, while V sank further and further down. Even her stance showed a little unsteadiness, like she was not 100% sure anymore. Before, V was able to answer to the nice smashes of her opponent, but during those final moments, she cannot give cheer-worthy smashes anymore. Maybe D felt that, and took advantage of that. I remember during the earlier art of the game, this same thing happened; the only difference was that V was in the lead then. There was a momentum in her that just suddenly stopped when she missed a supposedly-good hit. It is just that it was totally different for D. V had something that stopped her amazing performance, while D here had something that started it. I knew from that second that if it went on, it would decide the fate of these two players in this particular game. The cheers even seemed to have added to D’s performance. Open-source is most commonly confused with free software although the difference is very miniscule however strongly opposed. When all of these ideas are put together we can understand that as an end user with open sourced OS’ we have the ability to see all of the code and modify most of the OS if we have the necessary skills to do so. Whereas with closed source we can only see the code after it has been compiled into binary, or machine code, and only make changes that the programmers allow us to make within the OS. Open Sourced OS When we talk about open-sourced OS’ usually people think of UNIX or Linux. These are great examples of what open- source is. If a user wanted to download a version of Linux to install on his computer he could, and the open source would not cost him a thing. What he may end up paying for is support. Or if he is an experienced developer himself he can do what open-sourced software was originally intended to and make changes to the source himself. This is the biggest difference between open and closed source OS. With open source the individual has the freedom to make absolutely any change he deems necessary to the OS. Imagine being able to change the way Windows works. If you somehow figured out that the Windows OS would always crash when you have exactly 6 explorer windows open what would you do? Well if Windows was an open-source OS you could fix it and compile it. Then you could send the fixed version to the author so it could be updated and distributed to everyone else. That is the beauty of open-sourced OS’. Some can argue that because there are so many more eyes on the open-source systems that it makes them more secure. Closed Source OS Closed-source operating systems are the extreme opposite of open-source. The only form of closed source you can get is binary, which means you’ll have to do some very heavy hex reverse engineering in order to be able to actually understand the code. Closed source OS’ like Microsoft cost hundreds of dollars to buy, and if there’s issues with the latest version, you are forced to wait until Microsoft developers release an update that may fix your issue and yet break another one of your applications. Users are at the mercy of Microsoft at all times. You can make recommendations and complaints about Windows not behaving in a matter that suits your needs, but you can’t do very much more. GNU Public Licenses GNU (GNU Not UNIX) General Public licenses are licenses used for distributing free software. The idea of â€Å"copyright† was flipped around and introduced as â€Å"copyleft† by the FSF (Free Software Foundation). The purpose of â€Å"copylefting† was to do exactly the opposite of copyrighting. Instead of locking the software down and using the full extent of the law against anyone attempting to copy the copyrighted software; a GNU GPL forces the authors to allow anyone to copy and modify the code. The best example of how the GNU GPLs are used is the Linux operating system. Using GNUs UNIX compatible tools, Linus Torvalds created a UNIX like kernel and invited all developers around the world to modify his code and submit it back to him. Using the open source method Linus was able to complete the Linus OS much faster than anyone anticipated. Even though GNU had begun to be developed before Linux, the use of the internet and GNU GPLs allowed Linux to be completed before GNU was. Microsoft Licensing Due to the fact that Microsoft Windows was created to be a closed-source OS, users are forced to pay for a license before being able to download the binary file and install the software. Microsoft licensing copyrights the software and prevents anyone not appointed by Microsoft from viewing and modifying the source code. The advantage of Microsoft licenses is that when vulnerabilities or bugs are found, the end user doesn’t have to worry about figuring out how to fix it. Microsoft developers package the fixes and notify the end user’s OS when they are available for download. For an end user with no programming experience, the Microsoft Licensing scheme is a perfect scenario. Of course it costs a nice chunk of change, but for some people ignorance is bliss. The obvious disadvantage to this licensing structure is the complete opposite. The end users are completely powerless to fix known vulnerabilities and bugs. Microsoft has been able to blow past the competitors because of the availability of Volume licensing and software assurance policies. The biggest customer any software company can have is the government. When Microsoft started offering proprietary software that was easily deployable in any environment, the government and most other large companies were enticed into buying into the Microsoft Licensing closed source idea. Conclusion As a rule of thumb a person should never completely close any door even after seeing what’s inside and turning the other way. In one hand open-source OS’ can be extremely useful because they are easily modified and tailored to ones need. Along with the fact that there seems to always be someone interested in helping with code and the development of useful software. Most of the time, these programmers are not getting paid and are mostly just looking for a challenge. And on the other hand when money isn’t an issue and the knowledge of code is an issue, one can easily find themselves completely absorbed in the closed source way of life. Is either one better than the other? Maybe in some scenarios, but neither can nor should be considered a failure of societies way of thinking.

Vertigo Hitchcock Defying Genres Essay Based on the French novel D’Entre les Morts by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac, Vertigo is arguably one of Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpieces and the â€Å"strangest, yet most hauntingly beautiful film he had ever made† (Adair, 2002). At the time, its far-fetched plot drew a mixed response from critics – Time magazine called the movie a â€Å"Hitchcock and bull story† – but today most agree that it is one of the director’s most deeply felt pictures. Vertigo very easily categorized into a specific genre – Thriller, a genre of movies that, in many ways, Hitchcock played a major role in defining. Thrillers are typically movies that attempt to create excitement and include stories about murder, conspiracies, violence, or, in the case of Vertigo, a psychological thriller with unusual characters with unstable mental states. Vertigo checks most of the boxes in defining itself as a thriller. However, simply labeling Hitchcock’s Vertigo a thriller will limit its contents, symbols, motifs and themes to just that of a thriller film. Very frequently, a â€Å"film can revise or reject the conventions associated with its genre† (Bordwell, 2001) Instead, in analyzing the film, we need to explore its mystery and romantic melodramatic themes Hitchcock used in creating this masterpiece which defies itself being categorized into a single genre. As the man who helped to shape the modern day thriller genre, Hitchcock was fluent in manipulating the audiences fears, and suturing them into a state of association with the characters and the world in which they exist. The main point of Vertigo being a thriller is the plot – Scottie, the protagonist and victim of a planned murder of an old friend’s wife – whom he falls in love with, an impossible love as she ‘dies’ and in turn, he continues his downward spiral into mad obsession. These semantic elements are true to psycho-traumatic thrillers, which are centered around the psychotic effects of a trauma on the protagonists (detective) current involvement in a love affair and a crime. The protagonist is always the victim generally of some past trauma which is Scottie’s acrophobia leading to his fellow police officer’s death, and often of villains who take advantage of his or her masochist guilt (Cook, 1999). These elements are evident of Vertigo being a thriller, but there is more . How Hitchcock defies Vertigo as being just a thriller is how the semantic elements fall short. Unlike typical thriller conventions, Vertigo has no happy ending. The flawed protagonist falls in love, which in turn became an obsession that ends in madness. He is guilty of all three deaths, and he stays in a state of transition the entire film. Hitchcock, who pioneered the use of morally ambiguous characters in cinema, filled Vertigo with such characters, especially the protagonist. The repeated motif of the spiral represents Scottie’s constant state of suspension and transition, all the way to the end of the film. Another major element that needs to be explored, is in fact the main motivation in the film – romance, or love, that eventually boils into obsession. Hitchcock uses the several cinematic techniques, music, and the motif of green to portray this element. The first time Scottie and the audience sees Madeleine, she is wearing green, she drives a green car, and when they visit the Sequoias, the name translates as â€Å"Always green, everlasting†. Scottie’s love for her was ‘everlasting’, even after death (Duncan, 2004). The notion of everlasting carries over to when Judy Barton appears, Scottie attempts, with succession to transform her. He changes her dressing, makeup, hair, and speech into his image of Madeleine. Perhaps the most impactful scene visually in the entire film was when Judy/ Madeleine emerges from the bathroom after Scottie convinced her to do up her hair, the final touch/ transformation into Madeleine. The sequence began with Scottie pacing in the apartment near the window as Judy was doing up her hair in the bathroom. He finally settles down onto the couch, facing away from the toilet door, waiting. As the bathroom door opens, he turns to his left, and we only see his left profile (Fig 1.), a mirror image to the first time he set eyes on Madeleine in the restaurant – unsure, and this time, full of anticipation. We are reminded of the green motif, by the neon light outside Judy’s apartment. As Scottie turns around to fully see the resurrected Madeleine, he slowly stands up and at this point the music starts to pick up, leading us to the point at which he sees his beloved. The camera tracks into a close up of Scottie’s face, with the green light reflecting off his eye, he almost looks like he has tears in his eyes (Fig 2.). Cut to Judy/ Madeleine stepping out of the toilet, it is Scottie’s POV of Madeleine bathed in ghostly green light. Similar to the scene in the cemetery where Madeleine was shot through a fog filter, which gave her the green glow, Judy/ Madeleine now had green light superimposed around her body, which gave her the appearance of a blurred, ghostly figure (Fig 3.). This reflected Madeleine coming back from the dead, now a ghost, as green is usually used to represent ghost or spirits in film. She then slips out of the blur and into focus, Hitchcock used this to indicate Scottie’s come back to reality, coming to his senses as he spots the locket in the next scene, realizing that Judy has been tricking him all along (Truffaut, 1985). There is a series of shot/ reverse-shots, as she walks toward Scottie, all the while with the green glow behind both. The walk toward Scottie was slow, as she pauses with a mid-shot, and eventually into a close up (Fig 4). In the close-up, she sneaks a smile, a slight smile indicating that she was happy that she was able to fulfill his request, of her transformation. Cut back to Scottie who takes a step toward her, he kisses her in close up (Fig 5). The dynamics of the music picks up as the camera starts to track around them, starting the 360-degree rotation sequence. The background starts to change, an illusion by Hitchcock to momentarily transform the mise-en-scà ¨ne of the present in Judy’s hotel room to a scene from the past. Scottie looks up from the embrace to see himself at the place where he first passionately kissed Madeleine. At this point, the camera slows the track and pulls back into a medium shot (Fig 6) and the music accelerates into a joyous tune. This shot was a visual externalization of Scottie’s thoughts and desire, while Judy was lost in her own world of denial, snuggled up, kissing his neck an overlap and irony of fantasy and reality. Scottie kisses Judy/ Madeleine again as the camera starts tracking once again as the music slows into the main melodic climax. The sequence is concluded a tight close up, once again with the green glow illuminating the background (Fig 7). Vertigo fulfills many elements that qualifies it as a psycho-traumatic thriller, but we cannot ignore the other (and maybe) more important aspects of the film, as discussed which were the romance, madness and obsession, which makes Vertigo the film that it is. Hitchcock also defies thriller conventions with the use of morally ambiguous characters, the tragic conclusion to the film, and other semantic elements, which deviates from the genre conventions. Vertigo defies genre, instead, it is a mix of genre. We have to look past genre conventions to fully explore and appreciate this â€Å"strangest, yet most hauntingly beautiful film he (Hitchcock) has ever made†. Adair, G. (2002). Samsung Company they are using radio in order to advertise product in the society for example Samsung S4 they use radio(FM) to advertise the product in Oman ,so this help Samsung company to get more customers who will buy the product. Source of Samsung is internal which come from marketing department to radio station. The purpose of this information to advertise the product by using mouth such as speaking for example promotion people they advertise product by using mouth so this help to get more customers in their market. Advantages and disadvantages of verbal communication Advantages of verbal communication It is simple to detect the problem this means that by using verbal communication it is simple and easy to know the problem by using mouth, for example it help to know people who have conflict among two people or more than two and this it is easy to solve the problem. The source of this information is internal which come from IT department to emails this means that it is easy to use internet than another organization. The purpose of this information it help people ,customers and employees in order to get different ideas and getting information from different people through writing for example email when you have new product and you want to advertise by using emails it will easy to get new customers and existing customers by email. Advantages and disadvantages of written communication Advantages of written communication It provide proof it is one among the advantage of written communication because it is not easy to exchange the information it is already written so by using written information it is better than using another communication. The purpose of this communication is to advertise Huawei product by using social network such as Instagram, twitter and Facebook in order to get new customers, existing customers and to show their competitor about the new product. The following are the advantage and disadvantage of on screen customer communication. Advantages of on screen or visual communication It gain faster the concept ,this means that easy to understand the concept because it does not use words but it using for watching television it can show as like a reality so it gain the concept faster than another communication. It easier to understand and more effective, it is easy to understand each other for example by using body language it show that more understanding like Samsung they are television to advertise they product so it is easy to understand fast than using radio. Disadvantages of visual on screen communication Cost, this means that it is cost by using television for example when you want to advertise you are product or services it cost a lot of money to advertise than using radio, so radio it is good because it did not cost a lot of money by introducing you are product. It take time to understand by using this visual communication it takes time customer or people to understand what you are product about so they have first to watch then after a few minute they will understand about the product. Visual communication it is very important to use because you sell you are product by using television and easy to get more customers, because of people watching television so if they see they want and you will gain more customers. Web based this means that you communicate with people or customers and transferring, sharing ideas and exchanging information through online such as company website and social media. The following are the advantage and disadvantage of web based. Advantages of web based It is easy to use, when you are using internet it is good because you will send and receive information fast, also you will get more customers around the world. Disadvantages of web based Hackers, by using this internet they are people who hack and stole all you are information which is illegal so this internet it is not because of this hackers as we know information you have it is very important. This web based information it is really important to use when you want to advertise you are product and you need get more customers you should have social network such as Instagram to get more customers and people can buy. THREE METHODS IN BUSINESS INFORMATION INTERNAL. Verbal or oral communication is the process of transferring information from one person to another through mouth such as telephone is an internal business information. Telephone is an electronic instrument which transfer the information (news) by using voice system. The following are the advantage and disadvantage of telephone. Advantages of telephone Cheap using telephone it is cheaper than other network to advertise you are product for example now days when you want to advertise product in social media such Instagram it is cheap than to advertise in the television(external) it cost a lot of money so by using telephones it better than using other network or written . Disadvantages of telephone Network problem, because of network problem you cannot talk properly sometime especially when there is rain season it will be big of problem for example when you have important customer and you want to talk to them by using telephone it will be problem because you did not hearing properly that is the big problem. Written communication is the process of transferring information by using words such as emails is internal of business information. Emails is the process of transmission of message by sending and receiving messages electronically in a system of computer. The following are the pros and cons of email. Pros of email Email are fast this means that, it is fast to delivered at once around the world not like other written communication is fast as email for example when you want to send some information to your friend who live in TANZANIA and you are in OMAN you can send it take only 1 minutes to reach because it is fast. CONS OF email Virus email may carry viruses for example those small programs can harm you are computer system such as sending email to your customers or read your email so this virus it is not good because later on it will cause a lot of problem. On screen or visual communication is the process of transfer information and sharing ideas form one person to another by using mouth such as face to face. This is internal factor of business information means that is the process of sharing ideas from one person to another through face to face. The following are the pros and cons of face to face. Pros of face to face Express of feelings this means that by using face to face communication it helps people to share some ideas, and feelings better than using words so it good to use face to face because of the eye contact for example people who promote their product they use eye contact that help them to get more customers by using face to face. Cons of face to face Cost by using face to face it require a lot of money to conduct the interview which means that getting someone for interview is the higher cost in a business for example most of they use interview which is face to face in order to get employee who have enough so this cost a lot money. TASK 4 –D1 In Samsung company they are using verbal, written on screen and web based this help to archive their goals and also it help them to increase sales, increase their profit and also bring good image and reputation of the company . The following are the business information used to make strategic decisions in Samsung. Verbal communication Samsung Company they are using radio to advertise the product. this help to increase sales because of most people(customer) listening to radio they usually going to look and buy the product so this will increase the profit case they are increasing sales and later on it will be good for staff retention. By using radio it is a proper way because it is easy people to get the information at specific time. Written communication is used in Samsung Company to provide the information about the product. This written communication it helps to increase good image, and reputation of the company. So this help to increase number of sales who are going to buy the product by reading the information. Using a letter to supply is not a proper way because sometime it can cause to despair so it is not good to use letter. Visual communication Samsung company they are using television to advertise they are product this help to increase number of their customers. to advertise you are product by using television it make more profit as we see now days when you advertise your product by using television it is like you telling thousand people(customers) so this means that you will making good sales and later on you will gain more profit. By using television it is a proper way because thousands of people they can watch television. Web based this means that in Samsung Company they are using internet to increase sales of the product so if anyone searching for new telephone they will see by using website. This will increase the profit of Samsung around the world people (customers) will know about the product. Internet is a proper way because anyone around the world they can see the new product and also easy to buy by using online. Conclusion in any organization they should have to use this types of communication in order to have good image and reputation of the company such as written (letters), visual(smartphone), verbal(telephone), and web based(internet) communication this help to receive, sending message in order to reach the goals of the company. Mary Shelleys Frankenstein Essay -- Frankenstein Essays

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein Nineteen-year-old Mary Shelley didn’t know when she began it that her â€Å"ghost story† would become an enduring part of classic literature. Frankenstein is an admirable work simply for its captivating plot. To the careful reader, however, Shelley’s tale offers complex insights into human experience. The reader identifies with all of the major characters and is left to heed or ignore the cautions that their situations provide. Shelley uses the second person narrative style, allusions both to Coleridge’s â€Å"Rime of the Ancient Mariner† and the legend of Prometheus, and the symbols of both light and fire to warn against the destructive thirst for forbidden knowledge. Frankenstein’s tale is narrated in the second person in order to warn the audience directly. Relatively few novels are written in the second person, but those that are have the singular ability to talk directly to their readers. Shelley went to great lengths to preserve this admonishing quality in her narrative: in order to speak to the reader as â€Å"you,† the book had to be written as a letter. Knowing the destinies of her characters, however, Shelley knew that neither of the principals would survive long enough to realize their mistakes. She therefore invented Capitan Walton who would, in his letters, preserve the imperative tone of the second person that is so essential to her purpose. The book was written in the second person so that the warning that Dr. Frankenstein gives to Captain Walton is preserved and relayed to Shelley’s readers: you and me. A classic example of the warning voice inherent in the second person narrative is Coleridge’s â€Å"Rime of the Ancient Mariner.† The entire purpose of the mariner’s tal... ...th knowledge not informed by morality has let loose on our 21st-century world such monsters as the atomic bomb, whose whereabouts are unknown, and whose existence threatens our lives every minute. Shelley may not have realized all of the implications of her writing, but she understood human tendencies. She raised a warning that unfortunately has gone largely unheeded . Like the ancient mariner, Frankenstein addresses his readers directly and warns against the destructive fire of forbidden knowledge—knowledge not anchored by morality. Perhaps the most compelling warning in the book is given in Frankenstein’s own weary voice as he prefaces his tale: â€Å"Learn from me, if not by my precepts, at least by my example, how dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge† (57). If someone else hurts you, you feel pain but not as much as having the guilt and pain of hurting other people walking around with you on your shoulders. This quote is true in everyday like still today. In the play â€Å"MacBeth,† by William Shakespeare, there are many examples of greif shown by the people in the play. The play â€Å"MacBeth,† by William Shakespeare, shows an example of what regret and wrongdoing feels like. When Lady MacBeth found out that her beloved husband, MacBeth, was to eventually be king of Scotland, she knew he had to take the throne right away and to do so; she must kill the present king, Duncan. Lady MacBeth and MacBeth came up with a plan to secretly kill Duncan so that Macbeth can claim the throne. After going through with the act of murdering the king and not being caught, the grief soon got to Lady MacBeth. She started sleepwalking, and talking in her sleep. She tried to wash blood off of her hands that she thought was there only because of the grief she had felt about killing an innocent, great king for a selfish act. â€Å"The thane of Fife had a wife; where is she now? What, will these hands ne’er be clean? No more o’ that, my lord, no more o’ that: you mar all with this starting.† This quote by Lady Macbeth in the play refers to her guilt she hides. She says this while sleepwalking and she is saying that the thane of Fife, MacDuff’s, which was one of King Duncan’s nobleman and a thought to be threat to MacBeth, wife is dead. MacBeth had sent someone to kill MacDuff’s family so there would be less of a threat towards him.

Tourism: Marketing and Tour Operator

In the tourism industry, travel agents, tour operators etc. are considered the intermediaries (distributors). Their main task is to bring buyers and sellers in the field together and reduce transaction and supply/ownership costs between buyer and seller, instead of completely eliminating an intermediary (such as a distributor). Benefits of Tourism Intermediaries? For the producer: * they are able to sell in bulk (for example: hotels) and might be able to transfer a certain risk to the * tour operator depending on the contracts made * reduce promotion costsFor the Consumer: * avoids search and transaction costs (by purchasing inclusive tour) * gain from specialist knowledge of tour operator * often gain most from lower prices Disadvantages of Tourism Intermediaries? The use of intermediaries by producers, such as hotels, will result in the loss of margins and in the loss of influence in the distribution process. ?For the consumer choice may be reduced and prices increase, especially w ith the further concentration and consolidation of tourism intermediaries. 1. 2 Integration, consolidation and concentrationThe term integration is an economic concept to describe formal linking arrangements between one organisation and another. (Cooper – Fletcher 2005) Horizontal integration? This occurs when two tour operator or two travel agents amalgamate, either through merger or takeover. The main reason is to ensure the extended geographical spread of outlets to ensure representation in al regions ? Vertical integration? A certain linking occurs along the production process. For example airlines establish their own tour operating company (British Airways. But the most common form of vertical integration within tourism intermediaries is when a wholesaler/ tour operator purchase or merge with a travel agency chain. ?One good example of wide range of integrated activities is the French conglomerate Groupe Accor: 3. 4 Integration strategies as means of expansion strategies Tour wholesaler or tour operator can strengthen their market position by integration. Integration takes place whencompanies merge or one company buys another. As it was outlined in Chapter 1 already, there are two main forms of integration: 1.Vertical integration It takes place when two companies of different levels on the distribution chain merge. Examples could be, when a supplier merges with a wholesaler/tour operator or a tour wholesaler merges with a retail agent.? We speak of backward vertical integration, when a wholesaler merges with or buys an airline or with a hotel. With this move a greater control over the source of supply is desired. ?We speak of forward vertical integration, when a tour wholesaler merges or buys a travel agency. For example a tour wholesaler buys another tou r wholesaler to improve their market share and reduce competition. In general, horizontal integration always leads to economics of scale, in functions such as human resources, purchasing, and thus to cost savings and price reductions. Through cost savings an organisation may become more cost effective, allowing them to develop a better range of products and to achieve better quality control.? (Lubbe 2000)
